What does that job title mean exactly?
I help people buy and sell residential property. At the core, my work is entrepreneurial and involves sales, marketing, contracts and negotiations. How did you get this gig?
I had a family friend who encouraged me to get my real estate license while I was a full time MBA student. He then introduced me to his broker (the owner of a franchised real estate office), and after one meeting/casual interview I decided to join that office as a new agent. While it is not the traditional path from a graduate program, I enjoyed my first year as an agent and have stuck with it since graduation. Why did you choose to do this to make a living?
First and foremost, I love the freedom and independence. I am never tied to a desk, but I am responsible for myself, my time, my schedule, my success and my failures. My paycheck is 100% commission based, so I have to keep motivated and also remember paychecks are never guaranteed. In addition I love working with different people and coaching them through very big personal decisions. In some cases I feel like a counselor or therapist even! I also like meeting with different people and constantly having new clients to work with. Each sale is a separate project, so I see end products and close chapters throughout the year - but keep the relationships with my clients going. Hopefully they will be clients for years to come!
